MOTTLING OF TEETH CORRECTION

Are you worried about your “Blotchy/mottled teeth”. This condition is called as Fluorosis and presents itself as white/brown or yellowish streaks on the surface of the teeth. Fluorosis typically occurs when there is too much of fluoride content in the water during the developmental stages of teeth.

There are many grades of Fluorosis and treatment varies according to the grade. Very mild grades are limited to few teeth and are hardly noticeable. Moderate to severe blotchy teeth require cosmetic management.

How is it fixed?
  • Dental Bonding
  • In this technique a small portion of the discoloured area is removed and refilled with a tooth-coloured filling material and polished for a glossy look. This is the easiest of the treatment options and cost effective. The procedure is painless and often completed in one visit.

  • Veneers
  • Dental Veneers are transparent shells of tooth coloured material that are pasted on the front surfaces of the mottled teeth. They can be made of porcelain for better aesthetic. However, this technique involves slightly more grinding of the natural surface of the teeth and are expensive. They are completed in 2 visits.

  • Teeth Whitening
  • Although suggested as a treatment option, this works well only in mild cases of mottled teeth. Whitening causes the discolouration/streaking to become less conspicuous but does not totally make them disappear.
